The Bay of Luanda was the venue of the team racing at the African Championship of Sailing Optimist. With teams composed of four sailors, Angolans Osvaldo da Gama, Lourenço Simão, Decaprio Fernandes and João Luacuti, reached the first place in the competition.

 

After a series of elimination races between teams, Algeria and Angola played the final three races. A very fierce competition, which left the home team winning.

With the defeat in the finals, Algeria was second and Mozambique won the third position.

West wind between 7 and 8 knots, the regatta field mounted very close to the waterfront of the city, allowed the public to closely monitor the Angola team victory.

Participating in the African Championship of Sailing Optimist Angola, Mozambique, Algeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Seychelles, and Zimbabwe. The Organization of the Championship is in charge of the Naval Club of Luanda and the Angolan Water Sports Federation.

Tuesday 11 October, is staging day, with participants to regain strength for two more days of individual competition, off the island of Luanda.
